Nottingham is home to a range of restaurants that offer various cuisines from around the world. Japanese is just one of those cuisines, so if you are hungry for sushi, ramen, udon, and other delicious dishes. You must visit these 5 Japanese restaurants in Nottingham.
1. Kushi-ya
We will start with one of our absolute favourite spots. A small, laid-back, independent restaurant called Kushi-ya is located down an alley off Nottingham’s market square. The restaurant on the first floor is intimate, so we suggest booking in advance! The restaurant serves various izakaya-inspired dishes. It prides itself on using the best quality produce, cooked simply. With an open kitchen, you can watch the chefs at work, which we love. The ever-changing menu includes snacks, small plates, skewers, desserts, and a wide range of Japanese spirits, beer, and sake. The food is so tasty, and we can’t fault the friendly, attentive service. The prawn toast and the prawn katsu sando were the best we’ve had. Regarding skill, value for money and atmosphere, Kushi-ya is a rare gem begging to be found.

2. Bonzai Sushi & Noodle Bar
The locals love Bonzai Sushi; it serves Japanese cuisine at affordable prices. Their skilled chefs have trained in Japan for over ten years, making them experts in Japanese cuisine. They pride themselves on using only the highest quality ingredients; many of them are imported directly from Japan to ensure the utmost authenticity. The food and friendly service here is perfect. We opted for a set menu, which was outstanding value for money (but so much food we couldn’t finish it!) We will be returning as we’d love to try the bento box, the ramen, and the California rolls, which all looked amazing.

But it’s not just the food that’s memorable – the unique seating arrangements and social atmosphere made this a truly unforgettable evening. Watch as your chef prepares your meal freshly in front of you with skill and precision. Ginza is perfect for couples or small groups and can accommodate various dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten-free options. We loved their mouth-watering lobster. 4. Yo! Sushi
This restaurant offers a convenient option for grabbing delicious sushi. All their hot dishes are made fresh to order, and there’s a wide variety of choices, including options for vegans and vegetarians and chicken and beef dishes. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, even doing a few demonstrations for us! We were served quickly, and some of their most popular dishes include cucumber maki, yakisoba, edamame, inari, seaweed salad, tofu curry, and gyoza. Our little one had a blast picking his food off the conveyor belt. It’s also good to note that this Yo! Sushi location is fully accessible for wheelchair users and offers free Wi-Fi and baby-changing facilities.
