How to choose the best all-inclusive resort

If you want to plan the perfect holiday, investing some time into researching where you want to spend your time off should be one of your priorities. Finding a resort that meets all your needs can be quite a daunting task if you’re not sure what to look out for, though, so we created a small guide to help you make informed decisions when selecting the location for your next deserved time off.

Where do you want to go?

The first step is, of course, to determine where it is you want to go. Popular destinations for all-inclusive holidays range from the Caribbean’s tropical beaches to our neighbouring Mediterranean’s historic coastlines. Each location may offer something different, so make sure you know if you are after vibrant nightlife, cultural attractions, serene beaches, or adventurous excursions. Consider factors such as weather, local attractions, and the type of holiday you desire: a relaxing getaway or an action-packed adventure?

What do you want to do?

Once you have your target destination, it’s time to evaluate the amenities and activities offered by the, no doubt, various resorts in that location. All-inclusive resorts often provide a wide range of facilities, including multiple dining options, swimming pools, fitness centres, and entertainment programmes – well, you get the idea. But some also offer more unique experiences like water sports, guided tours, and wellness retreats. Whatever they provide, make sure you know about them. Are you travelling as a family? Look for kids’ clubs and family-friendly activities. Are you a couple? You might want to prioritise an adult-only area and romantic options instead.

How are the reviews?

Reading ratings from previous guests is simply invaluable. Advertisements and official websites will usually show the resort’s best and most polished sides, but reviews can provide insights into the actual quality of service, cleanliness, food, and overall guest satisfaction.

Platforms such as TripAdvisor, Google Reviews or Trustpilot offer a wealth of information from fellow travellers. Use them. But instead of cherry-picking single entries, look for consistent themes – both positive and negative. This way, you’ll get a well-rounded and more accurate understanding of what to expect. And remember that a few negative reviews are normal – but widespread issues should be a red flag!

What does all-inclusive mean?

Know what is and isn’t included in your package to avoid unexpected costs that could sour your holiday experience. Typically, they cover meals, snacks, drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and a variety of activities and entertainment. On top of your flights and accommodation, of course. However, some services and amenities, such as premium beverages, spa treatments, and certain excursions, may incur additional charges.

Check if they are protected, too. Good and trustworthy holiday providers will have packages that are both following ABTA and ATOL, meaning they meet a certain degree of standards and you’ve got a safety net if anything goes wrong.

Wherever you are going, check the latest entry requirements and health protocols to ensure a smooth and safe journey.

At the end of the day, you should of course pick the resort that speaks to you most. However, dedicating a bit of time to researching the premise can go a long way.
