Okay, so I am back again talking about my favourite food in the world. Meat, Cheese and Buns provide me with all the fun that my tastebuds could ever want or need.
I’ve covered a few cities in the United Kingdom, but I haven’t turned my attention up north in a fair good while so today I am going to list my favourite burger spots in a city near and dear to my heart, Leeds. A fair few of my friends moved here or studied at university here so it’s a well-trodden path for me here when it comes to the city’s burgers, so take a look at what’s on offer then get yourself a table booked at one of these fine establishments below.
Meat:Stack – 3 Bishopgate St, Leeds LS1 5DY, United Kingdom
I know in the introduction I told you lovely readers to book a table, but this place doesn’t take reservations so apologies for that. Nevertheless, this place absolutely slaps, and the name pretty much spells out what these patty pushers are all about, stacking meat high between two buns.
Back in 2016, this burger joint kicked things off at the Newcastle Quayside Sunday Market with one goal in mind: to bring the cheeseburger back to its American roots, focusing on quality, flavour, and simplicity. Luckily for the city of Leeds, they then decided to venture a little further south and open up another restaurant in the city famous for its white rose.
They source top-notch beef from rare and traditional breed cows, crafting a unique blend of cuts into their patties. These patties are then smashed onto a sizzling hot grill, blanketed in cheese, stacked as doubles or triples, and steamed to perfection, melting everything together. That is literally my idea of heaven on a plate … or bun.
Their sauces and seasonings are freshly made in-house which is a nice touch as it makes the place stand out I feel due to being able to garnish your burger with a condiment you can’t get anywhere else. The sauces do their job as well and of course, they are designed to complement the beefy goodness they create. The team here is fantastic, you will be well taken care of, and they are dedicated to making sure you have an enjoyable experience. Everything is made to order and served fast food style so you won’t be waiting too long for your food either. There is so much good stuff to choose from and you can check out what’s on offer I have done you a solid and posted the menu above as you can probably tell.
Almost Famous – Alexander Court, Great George St, Leeds LS1 3AL, United Kingdom
Almost Famous has been around a fair while now and has a huge presence in the burger scene up north. They have some of the wildest creations you could conjure up and the drinks here go down well too. Some people will say this spot is overhyped, but I feel that just because it’s now become popular and no longer has its hidden gem status. People like to look cool and trendy, whereas I personally just like scoffing down amazing burgers dressed like a wandering vagrant.
Almost Famous burgers came to life with one mission: to deliver a super juicy, no-nonsense burger that drips down your arms. We’re talking 100% prime cuts of beef, pillowy soft charred buns, melty cheese, and creamy, tangy sauces. They smash all these elements together, creating the iconic burgers they’ve been known for since day one.
If you are a big eater then they have one of the maddest burgers I have ever set my two eyes upon, It’s called the Awesome HQ and it comes in at a very reasonable £14.50. This scientific experiment of a burger consists of two burger patties with cheese, double buttermilk fried chicken, halloumi, slaw, peri BBQ and then a dollop of bacon bacon mayo (yes that’s bacon bacon, not a typo!) for extra decadence.
Fat Hippo Headingley – 8 Otley Rd, Headingley, Leeds LS6 2AD, United Kingdom
Having been spotted in Trinity Kitchen and making a mark at the Leeds Festival, it was only a matter of time before the Fat Hippo decided to establish a permanent spot in Leeds. This is another spot that now has several locations around the United Kingdom and has even made its way as far down south as Birmingham (we know you in the midlands and not southern Brummies, so no need to bite our heads off babs)
Cleverly Locating their burger restaurant in the heart of Yorkshire’s sports hub home to cricket, rugby, and a bustling student community in Headingley has proved to be a winning formula for The Fat Hippo, they have the perfect clientele on their doorstep and a quality product to sell them. That’s a recipe for success if I have ever seen one.
.The Fat Hippo Known for its stacked, juicy burgers and vibrant atmosphere, it has become a go-to destination for burger aficionados in town. Before they had more locations I actually made a two-hour journey to this very spot in Leeds as I had the craving for their delicious food. My go-to butter here may not be everyone’s first choice when they take a gander at the menu as it’s a savoury and sweet combo, but if it’s good enough for Elvis Presley then it’s good enough for me.
If the Elvis Presley reference hasn’t already given it away my personal choice is the Peanut Butter + Jam burger. This delectable offering features a double patty paired with American cheese, topped with chunky peanut butter, bacon jam, and a touch of smoked chilli jello. It sounds so wrong but it tastes so right. All the burgers here come with a side of your choosing as well so that’s another bonus point added to this banging burger joint.
Mr Ts Leeds – 90 Burley Rd, Woodhouse, Leeds LS3 1JP, United Kingdom
MR T’s is a beloved family-owned restaurant dedicated to delivering fresh, flavorful cuisine. Established in 2016, the restaurant was founded with a mission to offer a dining experience that combines deliciousness with affordability. These guys are one of the best around, and honestly, I could probably write a whole article just about this spot, but variety is the spice of life and all that.
At MR T’s, quality is paramount to the products they offer. Ingredients are carefully sourced from local farms, ensuring every dish is prepared fresh to order with no frozen patties. Fresh ground beef is the key to any world-beating burger and that’s exactly what you get here.
The menu at MR T’s is a diverse one, featuring a range of options from burgers and parmesans to pizzas and shakes. We are solely focusing on burgers for the sake of this article, but everything this place puts out is a bonafide hit. Speaking of hits, Mr Ts has had some famous people through its doors, one being Tyson Fury and the other Deyontay Wilder. Smash patties are my favourite style of burger so of course at this spot my selection is the Gypsy King Smash burger, that’s two smash patties, American cheese, caramelised onions and gipsy king sauce all in one delicious bun.
