What sets Swindon apart from nearby cities like Bristol or Reading is how affordable housing is. You can easily find lovely accommodation without breaking the bank. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy as well. Cotswold Water Park and several country parks are all within a half-hour’s drive from the town centre.
Swindon, like any other place, has its downsides. For example, the lack of cultural events and nightlife makes having a night out challenging for younger people. Commuting times can be affected by traffic congestion during peak hours.

Our favourite restaurant in Swindon is The Greek Olive, located in the town centre. They serve authentic Greek food and have a cosy atmosphere. Make sure you try some of their top desserts, including baklava.

Swindon’s location means it has excellent transportation links to other major cities. The town is off the M4 motorway, providing access to London and other parts of the country. Swindon boasts a direct train connection that frequently runs to London Paddington station throughout the day, making it an ideal place for commuters.
Swindon has beautiful green spaces
Amongst our favourites are Coate Water Country Park – a haven for lovers of wildlife and greenery. Here, you can stroll along the lakeside or try your hand at fishing. There are plenty of carp and roach. Little ones can enjoy the play area with its swings, slides, and climbing frames. And there is a café offering tasty snacks and light meals.
Lydiard House and Park is a must-visit destination if you love history. The magnificent 18th-century building was once the residence of the St John family and is now a popular attraction for tourists. The mansion has been preserved beautifully; original furnishings and paintings are displayed. However, the park surrounding it is just as impressive. The gardens are stunningly maintained, with colourful flowers and shrubs arranged in intricate patterns. You can stroll around the lake or explore the woodland trails, making it a perfect visit for everyone. A hotel is on the grounds if you want to extend your stay.
