How to plan a romantic proposal this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is possibly the most romantic day of the year. It is the perfect time to express your love and appreciation for your partner. You may be thinking that you are both ready to make the next step – marriage.

Why not take advantage of the love in the air on Valentine’s Day and propose? Here are some tips to make your proposal perfect.

Choose a beautiful location

Finding the perfect setting is a very personal decision. You can look for meaningful locations within your relationship, or you can wow your other half in a picturesque setting.

If you do want to go for a meaningful place, take some time to think about how your relationship has developed. You could go back to the place of your first date or where you shared a landmark anniversary.

Picturesque locations can make a proposal extra special. You could consider heading for a romantic weekend away which culminates in a sunset proposal overlooking the ocean or an incredible vista.

Plan a thoughtful gesture

Once you’ve got the location sorted, you can start to add extra touches to the experience. This could be doing an activity together that you both love such as a pottery class, a hike through the countryside or an exquisite meal.

Surprises are often a huge part of the proposal – simply asking the question can often be the biggest surprise! Think carefully about your partner, though. Adding extra surprises such as a gathering of loved ones sounds great in theory, but only if your partner will love it too.

Smaller touches can often be the most heartfelt. You could choose to write a letter to your loved one explaining exactly what you love about them and the future you see together. This will also (hopefully) keep the nerves at bay when you pop the question!

Select the perfect engagement ring

An engagement ring is a global symbol of love and commitment, so there can be some pressure to get it right. Many couples who are on the same page will have discussed ring styles and preferences so you can gain a lot of information from that.

Make sure that whatever you choose aligns with your partner’s style. If they prefer simpler, cleaner outfits then a flashy ring may look out of place. Consider the different metal types as well. You may notice your soon-to-be spouse only wears silver or gold, so get an engagement ring that fits in with that.

Capture the moment

If you have the budget, hiring a photographer or videographer is one of the best things to include in your proposal. Being able to capture the biggest moment in your relationship so far gives you the perfect keepsake to look back on when you are both older.

Getting a record of the moment doesn’t have to be expensive, though. You could rope in a couple of friends to covertly take some snaps of the special moment.
