Styling Spotlight: John Lewis + WIN a framed print worth £170
Sometimes we all need a little helping hand putting together an interior decorating scheme, so it’s great to see John Lewis lending a hand with their quartet of “One Room: Four Trends” videos. Each video is designed to show how one, simply decorated room can be easily transformed into four different looks, with the use of great accessories and a little touch of creativity!
Our favourite is the Scandi trend, which offers a relaxed and simple approach to interior styling that is both tranquil and contemporary. The key products for the look are strong, minimal and funtional, with a soft palette of neutrals built up through the layering of tones and textures to create a warm and informal atmosphere.
We love the fantastic range of home lighting and lamps from John Lewis, as well as their extensive range of patterned cushions, which are all perfect for building up a sensual and tactile environment befitting of the Scandi trend.

To give you a helping hand bringing this trend into your home, we’re delighted to be able to offer one of our lucky readers a Picasso Head 1946 framed print (worth £170), as seen in the video.

NEW blog post: Styling Spotlight: John Lewis + WIN a framed print worth £170 http://t.co/sDm08ZgN #dbcollective
Hotel is my favourite .. my indulgence to check into a nice hotel once a month. If my home was more like a 5 star hotel I wouldn’t want to leave.
Scandi is my favourite of the four living room concepts…I love the blend of textures and fabrics used to create variation in the room. And the warmth conveyed with the use of the candles and lighting makes the ‘Scandi’ room a place of comfort and security – exactly what a home should be.
I LOVE the Hotel because i try to incorporate that look in my home as i can never seem to afford to go to an acutal hotel these days!!!
Would love to win the print
I love the timeless design with a maritime twist I could imagine being in a home by the sea in New England.
I like Scandi for the neutral, unbleached colours which makes the room softer.
Got to be fusion looks cosy and warm – I worked in nuclear fusion so have a biased view maybe on the name!!!!
I love Fusion! Just love the exotic feel and the morrocan style latterns are great and give the room a real quirky finish! Also I have a hand made rug from Croatia which would fit perfectly in the “fusion” room! Ahhh I just want to sit back on the sofa with a cup of tea and unwind!

Scandi, because it looks so relaxing
I Love Scandi clean uncluttered but still modern and cosy
I love the Scandi look its suits my style
Fusion – because it looks like a home, mixed and matched over the years, and filled with loved items.
Hotel is my favourite. Puts you in mind of getting away from it all.
My favourite room has to be Timeless, although it was a tough choice as I think each of the four styles are great in their own way.
Timeless was the one I feel I would be most comfortable and “at home” with though. I feel that the day-to-day clutter of modern life that would inevitably end up finding it’s way in would not detract from the overall feel of the room. In fact I think it would complement it and the room would feel very homely. The other styles might feel a bit like show pieces and I would constantly be worrying, straightening the cushions etc, trying to keep everything perfect.
The living room is somewhere I want to relax and the atmosphere that Timeless creates is one of calm. I love the way that inspiration has been drawn from a coastal theme, reminds me of pebble beaches and the waves breaking on the coast!
“FUSSION”, personal choice, i love the black adding contrast, to light room
“Timeless” is my favourite. I love the idea of bringing the outside inside. In this case they’ve used the seaside theme, but the shapes and colours of nature make it feel homely, inviting and relaxing. I cant wait to try something similar in my boring living room!
I prefer a stronger look so Hotel and Fusion were my favourites and if choosing just one for myself I would have to go with Fusion to incorporate our odd items we have collected from around the globe. I love dark woods, the thought of them being polished year after year means they have been loved and caressed which instantly gives more character and atmosphere to a room and which in turn makes it more welcoming.
Timeless, because it is very restful and neutral., a good background to add your own individual touches to
My favourite room is the timeless, it fits with who I am, it looks simple and elegant, not over styled or fussy.
I like Fusion – a little bit of the orient.
I like the timeless look, because it is what it says – timeless, it will always look good, and it is peaceful to be in.
Fusion because it say come in. please sit down and make yourself at home
Timeless – it looks like a real, proper homely cosy home and a safe haven to escape all the worries of our stressful lifestyles and to just let go and relax!
I like the fusion room, a great oriental feel to it, and a good blend of colours I think I would feel very restful in here
My favourite of the 4 looks is the Scandi – I like the use of natural colours and soft lines with little touches of luxury, and that the print/patterned fabrics are bold without being too ‘in your face’. The look is simple, classy and classic and invites you to make yourself feel comfortably at home.
Scandi because I like neutral colours.
Fusion because it has a subtle modern twist.
Timeless – feels so homely and cosy
Fusion.
The room has a more interesting personality than the others, blending curios such as the metal ribboned mirror and Morrocan lamps with functional yet stylish furniture. It would allow you to integrate your own pieces without spoiling the look.
Scandi,
Clean lines, simple, fresh and modern looking.
I love the Fusion range, it is quirky and interesting which I love.
I love the TIMELESS look as it is just that.
Fusion is my favourite,it looks extremely smart, but it sill looks like you could be perfectly relaxed in it,a room you could really live in.
I like the ‘Fusion’ room design – it has clean lines yet looks comfortable, and the decorative objects in the room look as if they have a story to tell. It reminds me of Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge, where Jim and Helen Ede over three decades collected an eclectic mix of art, furniture and ‘found’ objects, forming a perfectly balanced fusion. It still delights visitors today.
Timeless, because is says exactly as it is. I would just love to come home to this every evening after work.

Timeless, because it is exactly what the name says it is TIMELESS.
“Fusion” is my favourite look – it’s such a warm & inviting style, and has so much character.
The Scandi look I think is the best,
To me, it’s better than all the rest,
It looks so clean, it looks so neat,
A purist room that can’t be beat,
It reminds me of holidays spent in Norway,
And I could re-live them at home every day.
The style I adore most is the Hotel. Starting from the bottom up, its rug pattern seamlessly flows softly into the wall papered fireplace. It helps frame the eye to look at where a fire would burst with love for a family more so than the other rooms. Its mirrored furniture with minimalistic shiny lines also adds glitter to the whole rooms palette. The room is simply very symmetrical and each piece has been methodically placed to enchant the eye. It may have a more professional tone, but it deems perfect for a lush night in.
I like the Scandi look. It is welcoming, with light & fresh coulours that would delight on dull days and excite on sunnier occasions. The look envelops you into it’s comfortable folds in a pleasing way, desiring you to spend quality time in it’s environment.
I like the scandi style – neutral yet warm due to the inclusion of interesting textures and natural tones instead of stark white literal scandi interpretation – feminine and livable
Fusion because it is the cosiest of the options with some excellent pieces such as the wall mirror.
I love the Fusion room. I certainly looks stylish but most homely amongst the others. the fusion concept is also the easiest to personalise and to adapt and grow with you .
It has to be fusion! its so earthy and reminds me of nature
its like my living room is a nature reserve….i love the colours and its defintly how i would love to se my living room
P.S i really love the art piece its magnificent
I like the Timeless best. It looks sophisticated and classy. I can imagine myself after a hards day work relaxing with a glass of something nice.
I prefer the ‘Hotel’ look as I love symmetry for creating balance and a statement wall to add glamour and define the room.
I like Scandi – clean and neat, like I’d like my home to be, but warm and welcoming at the same time
Fusion. I don’t usually like ‘ethnic’ elements in western homes – as it looks a bit false or contrived – but this room looks natural and the black really anchors the lighter colours – it’s drama but not overdone.
Simply love the Scandi look. Simple, cool, uncluttered with a twist of quirkiness in that side board unit.
Understated and so right for our home. Particularly like the use of subtle lighting to take the room from day to night. Love it!
Well of the four looks, ‘Hotel’ works best for me.
Although I’m a bit of a home bod, as real hotel rooms normally disappoint on the style and comfort front. This room would be more than acceptable.
I think it is the most stylish concept with extra interest created with statement peices, bold wallpaper and lush jewel like fabrics. It has glamour but also has a gentle formality. It is a look that would ‘talk’ to people of all age groups. And like a little black dress could work well during the day, and with a bit of tweaking be sensational in the evening.
Scandi is my choice, the colours are calming and the whole look gives total relaxation in this busy world.
Scandi is the choice for me, it has a calm, relaxing feel that I adore.
Scandi is my choice, the colours are calming and the whole look is so relaxing in this busy world.
Certainly the scandi. More relaxing and cosy, besides the framed paint of Picasso looks great over the fireplace…
TIMELESS – its looks very fresh and relaxed. i could see myself in that room!
I like the Timeless style. The reminiscence of the New England look is very in at the moment, it shows understated elegance that works well to receive guests, but also comfy for a snuggly evening.
Fusion. Definitely Fusion. A healthy mix of travel items, handmade and bold combinations of old and new! Absolutely my favourite – would move in tomorrow!
Edite
Timeless is my favourite, it really does fulfill the brief and is exactly the look I would love to acheive in my home. It really give the sense of being on the coast without becoming a “themed” room and being over the top.
Timeless for me but with the addition of luxurious curtains and a fire to make it more welcoming.
I just love the Fusion style. It’s so exotic & interesting. I love bringing back different items from my travels abroad to remind me of that holiday. Each piece has a different tale to tell. I like mixing the colourful from the Caribbean with the aged & worn looking from Egypt. I love the warmth from many different textiles & textures. Fusion says travel & acceptance – the mixing of one culture with another.
I really enjoyed the Scandi approach– I’m not a minimalist, but the more light that can be brought into a room through light colors and classic mid-century lines, the better!
I love the Scandi style. It seems easy and inexpensive to recreate. Being so light, fresh and informal it makes me feel happy and young just by looking at it.
Scandi is my favourite.
It’s neat and clean lines would be easy to keep tidy. The different textures and patterns blend well together.
My fovorite look is hotel because elegant and livable at the same time. I really like the wallpaper by the fireplace and the color combination of the pillow
I love hotel – I have been looking for designs to decorate my room and will definitely be using ideas from the website. It is stylish and looks gorgeous.
I love the ‘timeless’ room. It creates a very calm atmosphere with the use of neutrals and gentle colour palettes in the acessories. The gentle tones and mix of patterns fuse beautifully to suggest a very tranquil relaxing environment.
I could imagine sinking back on the sofa surrounded myself with the lovely cushions and reading a good book!
Great competition! Of the four styles, I like the Scandi room the best. Thanks! Amy
Hotel. My kinda look.
Fusion. Nice and cosy look.
I think I like the Fusion look best as I love the ikat print cushions, the lantern and the wood stacked in the fireplace.
Timeless is my favourite look. It’s classy, comfortable, clean and homely.
I liked Fusion best because I love a room that reflects your memories, looking at items and remembering where you got them. It’s a warm, inviting style. You can change things to suit the seasons or your mood. It’s also a style well suited to hoarders (like me!) of cherished things who never throw them away, just mix and match, and it’s not an expensive look to maintain.
I actually like Hotel, I would normally be more likely to go for Scandi, but actually Hotel looks really warm and comfortable, it’s glamorous but doesn’t over do it.
I love the fusion look, fashiobable and liveable
The ‘Timeless Room’ is the one I would choose to spend time in. I would feel most relaxed there – a bit less clutter than in some of the other rooms – very restful scheme bith in the furnishings and colours .
It’s hard to pick between Fusion and Hotel, but I think I would go with Hotel as I love the glamour of it. The colors are so beautiful and it would be so inspiring to live somewhere like that. I like that it’s so stylish, yet warm and inviting at the same time. A great place to entertain.
The Timeless Room is the one I like the most. It’s relaxing, cosy and comfortable. I like the different textures used and subtle colours. I love all the different cushions and the quirky pieces such as the tea light holders with the little boat patterns and the pretty willow hearts on the wall that add that handmade feel.
Fusion – The look is warm and inviting, I could easily live here with the family and not be afraid of messing it up!
My favourite is defiently ‘Timeless’. It’s a classic look, always relevant, and will last, but worked with every year. The slightly maritime twist is also lovely, especially the accents of navy, blues and aquas.
I liked the Timeless look – it didn’t look like it was trying too hard to be trendy & looked so warm and cosy.
Timeless is my fave. It is so sleek and would look good almost anywhere
Hotel – i can kid myself that i’m on holiday
I love the Hotel, it reminds me of times spent with my late husband
I love fusion because my husband and I have travelled quite a bit. It gives us an exotic and away from home feel in our own space. This space would be ideal for us
Scandi is my favourite, i love the clean lines and light atmosphere
scandi because its bright modern and beautiful
I like the Hotel Room style because it is symple but stylish and elegant looking.
All the styles have their own unique appeal but I’m most drawn to ‘Hotel’ for it’s luxurious, effortless glamour.
Comfortable and warm, somewhere I could really relax.
I love the Scandi room, clean, simple lines, natural materials, fantastic tactile textures, and ingenious, functional design. Warm, inviting, easy on the eye, and a pleasure to live in.
Yes its Scandi , love the flexibility and you can add vibrant colours to jazz up the Scandi style .
Hotel is my favourite – love the lines
All of them look great, but for me it would have to be Timeless, because its homely and welcoming
love the fusion one!! soo want it lol
Fusion.
I like the dark pottery but the light still brightens the room.
The artwork, mirrors & accessories, (even to a man’s eyes) make a real difference.
My family would be comfy in there !
Timeless because its the type of look I would like in my own room if I could afford it.
I like Scandi, I love natural colors, light with lamps and candles, the modern furniture and the use of natural wood.
vale
All four have their own unique qualities but if I had to pick a favourite it would be Fusion.
It has a more exotic feel that I find appealing
Scandi – art to art
My favourite room is Fusion. I love the eclectic look,
Fusion is my favourite. I love the exotic look that it brings to a home, and brings flavours of style from different countries
I love the Timeless look personally it so Classic
Hotel is my favourite, it looks cosy and has a nice mix of colours. I would love to sit there with a glass of wine at the end of the day, very relaxing
fusion is my favourite because it looks sylish without being over the top
like the fusion because its homely and stylish at the same time, often in room sets. style comes before comfort but this has both
I like Hotel it looks more classy
I love ‘Hotel’. The room is stylish and smart and the colours on the cushions give it a beautiful warmth. I like the decorative elements of the wood in the firepalce and the glass and flowers. Overall this room just says to me ‘come in and relax’
Scandi, very natural and i love it
Fusion is my favourite. It looks stylish but not so much so you’d be worried about messing it up, so it’s homely too. The accents of colour can be added to and changed making it a look that can change with the seasons and your mood.
I love the hotel look a touch of luxurious class
timeless its very classic and spacious
I love Scandi as the mixture of rustic and contemporary decor brings a light romantic feel that would fit any modern family home.
i love the hotel room as everyone would love to live in a chic, style by a mile
I’d prefer to have timeless as it look the most relaxing – a great way to unwind in front of the TV.
My favourite is fusion!
It does what it says on the tin, brings a variety of exotic and vibrant colours, I absolutely adore it
I love the timeless one as it looks homely, warm and family orientated, practical for the hustle and bustle of family life
The Scandi room is my favourite ,its just so simple and stylish.I can imagine the pleasure of living with and using the accessories .Its so important that things in the home are beautiful and practical. When its done as well as this its life enhancing.
Well they all have the x factor, the interior design style that stands out for me is the timeless this room gives you a warm feeling, straight away it feels like it could be home, it’s got a shabby chic look that will never date, it’s peaceful, comfortable and looks so fresh. Even the small details have been thought about I absolutely adore the hearts and star and will be purchasing very soon. All in All to me this room is a piece of heaven a place to relax and enjoy
I love the Fusion Look because it is based around neutral classic, elegant pieces which are enhanced with stunning Eastern influenced ornaments and pictures. It really us stunning.
Scandi -after being out in the world all day – its such a lovely relaxing place to be able to come home an take sanctary in.
The room Fusion is my favourite! I love it.
I’m a fan of the timeless look. It does what it says on the tin. I love the way the room is uplit, it looks so warm and toasty! The sofa looks comfy and ready to launch into at the end of a long day. I can imagine putting my feet up on a Sunday morning to read the papers, drink a cup of coffee and munch on a croissant!
I fell in love with the last but not least ‘Hotel’ room. I loved the rich colours and the overall style… It is cosy, but fresh and vibrant. I would love to spend my time in a room like that
Love Fusion, it reminds me of when I have travelled overseas.
Really like ‘Fusion’ such a warm inviting room.
I love hotel its symbols simple luxury and looks lovely and inviting
scandi – fresh and very soothing
I love timeless. It’s a design that you could make your own by putting your own personality into with photos, things that are special to you and wonderful prints like the picasso head in this competition…
I love Scandi. Neutral colours that create a wonderful base for me to add my own little touches
Fusion…
Heartily warm!… It looks like a 1920s dapper explorers ‘pied-à-terre’..who’s just found the ‘fountain of youth’ and escaped from some decidedly dangerous lions lair!
