Nautical ‘shanty chic’ – a trend for spring-summer interiors
Nautical blues and sailor stripes are usually spotted as a trusty trend in spring summer fashion which this year will extend to home interiors with the ‘shanty’ shabby chic look, as predicted by trends forecaster Global Mix.
Brighter blues are instantly mood lifting reminding us of cheery clear skies and sparkling sea and there are some lovely decorative accessories, wallpapers and paints in colours of blue to try a little shanty chic for yourself.
The Mambo paint colour by Little Greene and Sky, a colour from Designers Guild both above, are bold bright blues. Try them out to freshen up a tired looking piece of furniture such as a chair and accessorise with a ‘Coastal Cushion’ like this one from Mocha.
I like the child-like wavy design and colour of the Cobalt Blue Crayon Striped wallpaper from fabricsandpapers.com which would be great for a small informal area or child’s room. Glass, mirror and anything light catching adds to a ‘seaside feel’. Cluster groups of blue glass beads in clear glass bowls or dishes such as this collection from Spoilt Rotten Beads.
Inspired by a nautical look? Keep things fresh in the Breton Striped Coastal Duffle cool bag from Mocha. Adding to a feel good mood, I couldn’t resist including this clock by Jenny Walsh Design. Inspired by the phrase ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’ this bright blue wall clock has an hour and minute hand with a design based on fly wings.

This room is lovely, so light and airy. I love white rooms as it means you can be very creative with furniture and accessories as you said. Adding a bright coloured piece of furniture can really pull a design together and add a bit of character and warmth don’t you think?
