London by Colour

Inspired by Great Britains’ year of celebration featuring the Queens Golden Jubilee and of course the recent Olympics, many businesses have been developing new and different products to cash in on ‘Brand Britain’. Among them the recently launched paint range ‘Colours of London’ has caught my eye. There is a definite ‘richness’ to these colours I’ve not noticed in other ranges.

Designed by bespoke paint makers Mylands of London who have been established for 128 years and are the oldest manufacturer of paint finishes in Great Britain, the paints contain a ‘secret’ blend of crushed marble powders, china clay and many natural occurring pigments which the manufacturers say is “unmatched for colour, coverage and durability”. The largely ‘muted’ palette of colours lend themselves well to period properties where their more natural tones or shades blend with the original materials of the building.

The colour range has been inspired by the interior and exterior of London buildings and influenced from a vast collection of authentic period colour cards, samples and fragments of historic paints, wallpapers, distempers and plasters. Mylands’ study of colours showed many of the colours that were used in London for years are now popular today.

The resulting collection offers a ‘tour by colour’ around some of London’s well known landmarks, with paint names such as:

‘Brompton Road’ – a Harrods-like green

Mid-toned greenish-blue ‘Eaton Square’

And a rich, red ‘Theatre Land’.
