Interview with textile and surface pattern designer, Laura Olivia
This week, I’m delighted to feature an interview with textile and surface pattern designer, Laura Olivia, together with examples of her beautiful floral-inspired wallpaper, lampshades and cushions.
When did you start the business and where are you based?
I started my business in late 2010 and am based in Nottingham at the moment.
Where do you get your floral inspiration for your designs?
I get my inspiration from a variety of sources including trips to botanical gardens, garden centres and flower shops.
I often visit book stores too and browse the gardening sections. And I make sure that I take my camera everywhere with me as you never know when you’re going to find something exciting.
What are your plans for the remainder of 2012?
I’m working for a fashion designer in Mauritius for the rest of the year, producing prints for resort-wear, such as maxi dresses and kaftans which I absolutely love doing.
I also have a range of licensed wall art and cushions which will be launched soon, and I’ll be working on some new designs for my homewares range too.
What is your favourite flower?
That’s such a difficult question as I love so many!
The flame lily otherwise known as ‘Gloriosa’ has to be top of the list for its beautiful form and colour (this is featured in my cascade design).
Other favourites include Passion Flowers & Crocosmia. I’m drawn to anything exotic or unusual, especially if it has a surface pattern such as Orchids or Alstroemeria for example.
Many thanks to Laura for all her help in putting together this week’s blog post.
