Indigo – into the night

Dulux colour forecasting team have announced that indigo is their trend colour for 2013.

Originating from India, the plant extract from which the colour indigo is extracted is one of the oldest pigments used for the dyeing of textiles. Dark and mysterious, indigo is the colour of night. It has the power of black and regal intensity of purple.

Some might find this colour a little intimidating and like purple or black, indigo can certainly create drama in a decorating scheme. Or try a Scandinavian style using plenty of white and featuring indigo with printed fabrics. Sanderson also have paint in Indigo Blue 120. Peppered with a few other spicy paint colours such as Orchid from www.designersguild.com, or Sanderson Borghese Lime, you can lift it from being a little too oppressive in to something more exotic.

Hotel Indigo in Birmingham uses indigo to great effect in this bedroom with pure white and a shocking pink. The textured cushions soften the look.
