Heart Home meets… Pippa Jameson
It goes without saying that we all loved the launch issue of Heart Home magazine and as a freelance interiors stylist I was desparate to check out their wonderful array of homes features. One of my favourites was the luscious Victorian home of Cavaliero Finn, styled by the newly-crowned (!) Crown Interiors Blogger of the year, Pippa Jameson.
Pippa was more than qualified to style the first ever Heart Home magazine cover, having been an interior stylist for the last 14 years working in all areas including TV, magazines, advertising, books and film. She has also recently launched a new Online Interior Style service, ‘Ask The Expert‘ , providing you with all the help and advice you need for your home, from decorating problems to furniture questions and general style advice.
Pippa took time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions for me…
I have always had a passion for interiors which stemmed from a very early age. My mother was a fashion student at Central St Martins in the 60′s so colour and pattern was naturally a large part of our lives. As I moved through school, college and university, it was textiles that I steered towards. Realising very quickly my love for colour and composition, it was a magazine editor that suggested I became an Interior Stylist.
Modern, feminine, bohemian, eclectic, fresh, inspiring
I find inspiration from everything around me; designers, stylists, fashion, holidays, nature.
It has to be a large Ad campaign that I styled for John Lewis, who had a store opening in Cambridge. They decided it would be a great idea to float all of their new stock on a punt down the River Cam, and use this as the press shot for billboards and buses. It was the craziest thing I have ever done but it was a complete success. It is times like that when I think how much I love the randomness of my job!
If you don’t have the budget for a complete makeover then some quick fixes include:
- Re-upholster a tired looking sofa
- Invest in some new cushions
- Wallpaper a feature wall; chimney breasts look best and opt for a graphic or illustrative print which are in line with current trends
- Quick kitchen updates include painting or replacing cupboard doors or adding a stylish new splashback
Mmm, good question. I think my dream commission would be to style the cover of Marie Claire Maison or Vogue Living or maybe Sunday Times Style.
There are many stylists that I admire, but when I look for inspiration I tend to look more towards fashion than interiors. I am a big fan of Missoni and recently Tina Kalivas.
Many things; the freedom to be creative, the wonderful houses I get to see, working with incredible photographers and directors and also being paid for a job I truly love.
