Halloween inspired decor
We may be heading towards the darker, shorter days of a long winter period but tomorrow Halloween begins the first of the seasonal festivals that light up our autumn and winter seasons with spooky celebrations.
Currently squeezed in between the November fireworks and the first wave of Christmas products, are all sorts of black and orange Halloween goodies. Halloween is one of the oldest celebrations in the world. It is thought that the orange and black colours of Halloween symbolised lighted fires and candles which marked the end of the harvest period and the welcoming of winter. Essentially, orange taps in to our sense of enjoyment, of feeling safe and comfortable and can add a little element of ‘fun’. Mysterious black relates to darkest night time when much remains unseen by the eye and hidden, but also can appear glamorous and sophisticated.
www.dwell.co.uk have plenty of home accessories and interesting wallpapers around now to ‘Goth’ it up for some Halloween inspired decorating. The ‘Stone Angels’ and ‘Wrought Metal gate’ wallpapers are very atmospheric!
Whilst skull candles, tealight holders and cushions also from www.dwell.co.uk add a little kitsch fun.
I think these Punched Ceramic Pumkin Luminaries and Rattan Decorative Pumpkins with lights from www.potterybarn.com are cute enough to keep around for longer than Halloween!
