Colour’s fun at contemporary design show
As part of London’s current design festival I visited contemporary interiors show 100% Design where industry professionals can see exciting new products and meet exhibiting manufacturers at the forefront of design.
Although more commercially orientated than the interior decoration event Decorex, (which I’ll be visiting this week), I went along to spot any emerging colour trends that may have an impact on design for our homes.
Over all there was a definite preference for natural wood colours and textures; many combined with bright and sometimes unexpected ‘pops’ of primary colour adding a more playful twist to otherwise functional designs as in this Home Desk by George Nelson from www.vitra.com.
Bright colours featured quite strongly adding a fun element to furniture design such as these ‘leaning man’ side tables from www.andthenshop.co.uk.
Green is still very much in evidence. However, from across ‘the pond’ I have been picking up on the conversations of our American designer friends about the rising popularity of the colour ‘chartreuse’. This exciting colour does seem to be cropping up in the designs of several manufacturers including Bark and Dare Studio. Described as half way between yellow and green, it was named because of its similarity to the colour of the French liqueur ‘green chartreuse’.
A colour that’s perhaps not for the faint hearted, chartreuse can really add zest bringing a fairly neutral scheme to life. I loved it accented with red which is another colour I saw a lot of used with green, its ‘complementary’ colour.
