British Inspirations

The opening ceremony for the Olympics by Danny Boyle was fun, funny, touching and poignant. It reminded us all about what we love about Britain, what it has given us and how it has inspired us. There were so many things of the culture that were represented from literature, music, drama, film, science, to the NHS, that have been absorbed in our imaginations that my sister emailed me to say “we are all Brits today”

I studied art and design here, so I find my approach has a little bit of British sensibility. I want to add a few of the greats that influenced my imagination from art, design and architecture:

Robert Adam and Neo Classicism

William Morris, who has not been inspired

Ben Nicholson for the simplicity and geometry

Peggy Angus, taught me how to print wallpaper and encouraged me to design

Patrick Heron, colour

Lucien Freud, his understanding of the form, volume and beauty.

And so many more teachers, friends and colleagues and movies and books and television and music…

Who inspired you?
