Beautiful floral paintings by Kate Toms

This week, I wanted to share the work of a very talented artist with you.  Her name is Kate Toms and she was introduced to me recently by photographer, Julie Davenport.

Kate paints in gouache and is inspired by her love of plants and gardens. Some of her paintings are in mixed media with mono and collage prints.

I hope you enjoy looking through them below…

As for a little bit of background about Kate…

Based in Dorset, Kate has been painting and designing textiles for thirty years.  She trained as a textile designer at Winchester School of Art for her B.A. Honours Degree.

As well as these paintings, Kate also has created a range of embroidered panels, cushions and scarves.

Her embroidered panels, which would make lovely pictures, either hung on a wall or simply stood, are created using a mixture of hand and machine embroidery. And each panel is based on an original drawing.

Kate’s cushions are created using her decorative fabrics, together with braids and beads as edging.

And finally, she has a range of scarves which feature four of the paintings in today’s blog post.  They’re made of pure silk crepe de chine, with hand-rolled finished edges.
