An interview with designer Emily Bond
Emily Bond is inspired by country living, and I suspect, from the frequency at which they turn up in her work, by her two gorgeous wire-haired dachshunds, Oscar & George. She’s based in Bristol and sources her fabric from Kirkcaldy in Scotland, so this really is British design from tip to toe.
What’s the most important thing to know about you?
I love what I do and running my business.
Describe a really good day and a really bad day in the life of Emily Bond.
A really good day is when deliveries are on time and my customers are happy. A bad day when the coffee machine breaks down!!
What inspires your ideas?
My family, my passions and places I visit. I love the UK so my designs are inspired by places we visit and see in the UK.
Describe the process you go through to turn your ideas into products.
It’s a long process its usually comes from something I love and then I work from there. Designs can evolve over two years sometimes or they can evolve over a few months – it really depends on the type of design.
What advice would you give to an aspiring designer?
Make sure you design things that haven’t been designed before. There is too much copying going on in the world, so create something new and make sure you are passionate about it.
Which three designed items could you not live without?
My Moleskine sketch book, my dog beds because my dogs just love them and my Lavazza coffee machine.
What are you most proud of?
My little boy Arthur. He’s 5 months old and totally devine!
What’s next for you?
To keep growing the business and eventually to move to the country
And, finally, what’s your favourite colour?!
That’s a very tricky one because I love so many colours and my favourite colours change, but at the moment I love an old fashioned red.

I’m a huge fan of Emily’s fabric not least as a fellow dachshund owner (I have a pin wire mini called Milo) but also as I’ve used her products in my designs. They look great in country houses and playful elsewhere.
